Kadhai chicken, also known as karahi chicken, is a popular North Indian dish made with chicken cooked in a spicy, flavorful gravy in a kadhai, which is a type of wok. The dish is typically made with chicken, onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and a variety of spices, including garam masala, turmeric powder, and chili powder. The chicken is marinated in the spices and then cooked in the kadhai until it is tender and juicy. The gravy is then thickened with yogurt or cream and garnished with cilantro.

Kadhai chicken is a popular dish in both homes and restaurants in North India. It is typically served with rice or naan bread. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion.

This 50g spice mix pack is good for making 4 servings. The ingredients needed for 1 pack are as listed below.

  • Chicken – 300g
  • Chopped Onion, Tomato and Green bell pepper – 50g (1/2 medium bowl) each.
  • Tomato puree/Tomatoes – 100g/2 medium sized ones.
  • Oil – 3 tbsp.

Method of preparation

  1. Mix the pack content with 1 cup of water and use it to marinate the chicken.
  2. Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pan and add the chopped onion, tomato and green peppers. Stir fry on high flame for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the pan and keep it aside.
  3. Make tomato puree by boiling and crushing the tomatoes or use the packaged puree and add that to the pan to mix with the remaining oil. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or till oil separates.
  4. Add the marinated chicken from Step #1 and stir fry till oil separates.
  5. Add 1 cup of water. Cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Add the stir fried vegetables from Step #2 and mix well. Serve hot.
