Palappam is a variety of common appam, which is usually prepared with a mix of ground rice batter and coconut milk. The variation is due to replacing of coconut milk with ground grated coconut. The Palappam powder mix is made from ground mix of fine white rice, lentils and yeast. Typically this powder is mixed with lukewarm water and left to ferment for an hour and then poured into a lightly oiled pan to cook the appam.
